The following article was published last week, Happy Roses gives hope during these difficult economic times…!

In response to the difficult economic times, Stewart’s Florist will be giving away free roses today and Friday.
Melanie King, owner of Stewart’s Florist, and the employees of this downtown flower shop have found a creative way to support the community by giving away flowers for canned food.
Stewart’s Florist is teaming up with Peter’s Rock Church to restock their depleted food pantry.
Betty Young of the food pantry said: “We are in need of all types of canned goods, especially the basics.”
Today and Friday, Stewart’s invites members of the community to bring any two canned food items into the store to receive a free Happy Rainbow Rose.
“People love to receive flowers, it really gives them such a sense of joy! So if we can collect food for families in need, then provide the givers with a gift, it seems like the perfect idea to us,” King said.
The Happy Rainbow Rose is a new rose variety developed exclusively in Holland in 2008.
The rainbow colors come from a unique patented four-color injection system. The roses have only recently become available in the United States and Stewart’s Florist is very proud to be the first florist in Starkville to feature them.
Monetary donations will also be accepted for the Peter’s Rock food program’s needs.
Anyone who contributes a monetary donation of $25 or more will receive a free half-dozen roses.
Stewart’s will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.today and Friday to receive donations.
The business is located at 419 East Lampkin St. behind the Starkville Public Library.
